Are You the Problem? The Truth About Scaling Your Business

Companion to the MaxLife episode with Jerome Wade

Jerome Wade's hardest line for founders: "If you are the problem solver, you are the problem." The ceiling on most businesses isn't strategy or the market. It's the owner, still routing every decision through themselves. This page helps you find where you're the bottleneck, and take one real step out of the way, so the business can finally grow past you.

01

Where Everything Passes Through You

Be honest: what decisions still route through you that don't need to? List the ones where you're the bottleneck, the approvals, the 'let me just handle it,' the things only you 'can' do.

02

The Rational Lie

Wade says founders 'rational-lie' that they're the only one who can do the job. What's the thing you tell yourself only you can do, and is that actually true, or just familiar?

I keep telling myself only I can ___.
03

Give Someone Altitude

Pick one person on your team. What decision authority could you give them (real altitude, not just tasks) that would take something off your plate and grow them at the same time?

04

The Story Underneath

Wade says the most expensive belief is 'I am not enough.' When you imagine letting go of control, what's the fear underneath, the story about what it would mean about you if you did?

05

One Thing To Hand Off This Week

Not everything. One thing. What's the single responsibility you'll hand off this week, who owns it now, and how will you stop yourself from taking it back the first time it's imperfect?

Wade's whole argument is that a business only has value when it goes beyond you. Look at prompt 05. You don't have to hand off everything. You have to hand off one thing, give someone the altitude to own it, and resist the urge to take it back the first time it's not done your way.
