You Are the Bottleneck in Your Own Business

Companion to the MaxLife episode with Ben Laws

Ben Laws asked a founder doing $8 million a year one question: if you vanished for 90 days, would the business survive? The honest answer is a diagnosis, not a verdict. This worksheet finds the exact place you've made yourself the spine, and the one move that starts loosening it. Answer like the only person reading it is you.

01

The 90-Day Test

If you disappeared for 90 days with no phone, no email, no text, what's the first thing that would break? Be specific about the exact decision, account, or fire only you handle.

02

Needed vs. Valuable

Where in your business are you confusing being needed with being valuable? Name one thing everyone waits on you for that a part of you secretly likes being needed for.

I stay needed for ___ because it makes me feel ___.
03

The Sacred Cow

Ben says a version of you has to die: the one who's first in, last out, who wears the exhaustion like a badge. Describe that version of you honestly. What has it cost you, and what has it protected you from feeling?

04

The Real Price

Picture selling this business in five years exactly as it runs today, with everything flowing through you. What does a buyer see, and what would they pay less for? Then picture the version that runs without you.

05

Give One Decision Away

Pick one decision that always runs through you, ideally the most exhausting one. Who are you handing it to, completely, this week? Not 'run it by me first.' Write the name and the decision, then notice: where does your gut panic?

Look at prompt 05. Ben's whole homework is one decision, given away completely, and then watching where your gut panics. That panic isn't a stop sign. It's the map to where your identity is still load-bearing. Pick the decision. Hand it over. Let it be a little uncomfortable, and don't take it back.
